Learning The Signs Of Elder Abuse
Updated: Apr 1, 2019
The problem of elder abuse is one that should concern everyone, especially those of us who work in elder law. While horror stories of seniors being neglected and mistreated are far too common, a recent story out of Ohio presents particularly egregious allegations.
According to CNN, Ohio Attorney General David Yost (R) has brought more than two dozen charges against several current and former employees of a Columbus-area nursing home. The charges include involuntary manslaughter and gross patient neglect. The indictments also claim that nurses falsified patient records and forged signatures.
Elder abuse can take many forms, including neglect, physical harm, financial exploitation, and emotional abuse. The National Institute on Aging provides a very useful guide to recognizing elder abuse and what to do if it is suspected.
